As our studio grows, new responsibilities arise. From time to time, I might ask a Studio Assistant to take on additional responsibilities within the studio. It's a role reserved for students who have consistently demonstrated initiative, reliability and maturity, and who are ready to support others as well as continue their own growth.

Studio Assistants work alongside our instructors in the same classes each week, becoming a familiar and supportive presence for the younger artists in their classes while learning more about how the studio runs behind the scenes.

What begins as a weekly art class often leads to students staying with us throughout their high school years. I've learned to recognize the students who would make great Studio Assistants: helpful, empathetic and always ready to reassure another student.
Being a Studio Assistant gives those qualities somewhere to shine.
Some students are invited to join us behind the scenes.
Those invited to take this next step begin by volunteering alongside our instructors. It's an opportunity for us to mentor them, for them to experience the role, and for all of us to discover whether it's the right fit.
Applicants must:
✓ Be at least 14 years old
✓ Have completed a minimum of two years as a Funky Artsmiths student
✓ Demonstrate responsibility, kindness and initiative
✓ Receive an invitation to apply from our instructional team

Absolutely! Every instructor is an artist who loves creating and sharing that passion with students.
Can anyone apply to become a Studio Assistant?
Studio Assistant positions are a conversationand invitation. Students must meet age and experience requirements and demonstrate responsibility, kindness, and leadership.
How do Studio Assistants become instructors?
Every instructor at Funky Artsmiths began as a student. They first became volunteer mentors and Studio Assistants, gaining years of experience supporting our instructors and students before continuing their training as instructors.
