Classes are grouped based on the students grade

Classes are small -no more than 12 students in a class

There are a number of classes for each grade across the week to suit every busy parent and students schedule

Fall and winter classes are 22 weeks in length over two semesters. Our final class is the annual art show in which every artist participates.

Students have access to professional-quality art materials throughout the year, including drawing materials, paints, printmaking equipment, and a wide variety of mixed media.

There's no supply list for our classes. We provide everything students need to work at the studio.

We focus on building strong drawing, observation, colour and design skills. These foundations stay with students, giving them the freedom to explore wherever their creativity takes them, whether that's painting, illustration, animation, video game design or manga.

One of my favourite things about what I do is watching each student's personality find its way into their artwork. At school, students are often rewarded for finishing quickly and getting the right answer. Here, we slow things down. We look again, make changes, solve problems and keep improving our artwork.

That's how artists work.

One of our favourite traditions often happens at the end of a class. Students take a “gallery walk”, looking carefully at each other's artwork and sharing genuine compliments. It's a wonderful way to build artistic language, celebrate different creative approaches, strengthen our studio community, and help every young artist leave feeling proud of what they've created.

creative kids

We believe every artist should have the opportunity to create.

Funky Artsmiths proudly works with Creative Kids Saskatchewan, a charitable organization that helps eligible families access funding for children's arts, cultural, educational and recreational activities.

If you think your family may qualify, we'd be happy to help you explore the program.  Please complete your registration first, then let us know you're applying. We'll hold your artist's place while your Creative Kids Saskatchewan application is being processed.

you might ask ...

What if my student misses a class?
We don't offer make-up classes because our schedule is full. Instead, our Studio Assistants help students catch up on any missed work during their next class.

Can my student start after classes have begun?

If there's space, yes—but only during the first three weeks of the semester. Our classes build from week to week, so we want new students to start while they're still able to settle in with the rest of the class. If space is still available later in the semester, we'd be happy to welcome them at the beginning of the Winter semester.

Do parents stay during class?

We don't have a waiting area inside the studio, so students are dropped off at the beginning of class and picked up afterward.

One of our favourite parts of the day is greeting every student as they arrive. You'll usually find all three instructors at the door—sometimes cheering, sometimes singing, always excited to see our artists.

Some students can be a little nervous the first time they come on their own, but they settle in quickly. That little bit of independence often becomes an important part of their confidence, both as artists and as individuals.

At the end of class, we personally make sure every elementary student safely connects with their ride. If they can't see their vehicle, they know exactly what to do:

"If your ride's not outside, you come back in."

My student is new to Funky Artsmiths. Will they fit in?

Absolutely! Every class welcomes both new and returning students. We take the time to get to know each artist, meet them where they are and help them settle into the group.
